250th Anniversary Commemoration of the Suffolk Revolves | August 31, 2024

By Robert Huke |

The Suffolk Resolves – an important predecessor to the Declaration of Independence – were a declaration made by Suffolk County leaders on September 9, 1774, in protest of the Intolerable Acts passed by the British Parliament earlier that year. The document outlined grievances and a strategy for resistance, and was largely written by Joseph Warren. Paul Revere rode to Philadelphia and delivered a copy to the First Continental Congress, which endorsed the Resolves on September 17, 1774.

The Suffolk Resolves were approved at the Daniel Vose House, now known as the Suffolk Resolves House, which is managed by the Milton Historical Society and serves as their headquarters.

On Saturday, August 31, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., join the Milton Historical Society, the Massachusetts Freemasons, and the Dr. Joseph Warren Foundation for a special opportunity to visit the Suffolk Resolves House (1370 Canton Avenue, Milton) and learn more about this important document and its impact.
