Lafayette Welcome Celebration Bicentennial | Saturday, August 24th

By Robert Huke |

Over the span of fourteen months between 1824 and 1825, the Marquis de Lafayette, visited the 24 states in the United States for his “Grand Tour of the United States.” Soon after he reaches the country, he visits Boston on August 24 for the first of several stops in the region. His arrival was marked by a grand celebration featuring a two-mile long parade with an estimated 70,000 spectators. The celebration concluded with Lafayette being received at the State Houses to the sound of an artillery salute.

On the 200th Anniversary of arriving in Boston, the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts will join the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company for a commemorative celebration of this historic occasion. The event will feature a parade to Boston Common, a wreath-laying ceremony, a review of the troops by General Lafayette, comments from dignitaries, and a cannon salute.
