Pequossette Lodge Helps The Scouts
By Wor. Arthur Joseph “Joe” D’Amico III, Secretary of Pequossette Lodge.
This year Pequossette Lodge has started working with the members of Troop 30 in Watertown in support of the appeal that Grand Master M. Wor. George F. Hamilton has made to lodges in the jurisdiction to engage with local Scouting organizations. Wor. Joe D’Amico and Wor. Mark Giragosian, alumni of Troop 30, have spearheaded the effort to work with the troop and learn how we can support their organization.
On May 1st, several members of Pequossette Lodge met at St. John’s Church in Watertown to help the scouts prepare for their annual 20-mile bike trip. Attendees inspected and serviced over 30 bicycles during the event, and the scouts were very enthusiastic about the support from so many members of the community, and to have the opportunity to learn about bicycle maintenance.
On Saturday, May 10th, members of Pequossette Lodge again met at Saint John’s Church in Watertown to support Troop 30 at their annual Car Wash Fundraiser. Nearly half the troop was in attendance, washing and drying cars despite the inclement weather.
On arriving we were pleased to see that cars were lining up in front of Saint John’s Church for the event. The lodge members were pleased to be there to learn a bit more about Scouting and support the young men and women of the troop. The Master of Pequossette Lodge, Wor. Marc Khederian, invited the members of Troop 30 down to the lodge so that the brethren could learn more about Scouting and what ways we could further support them.
Following the carwash, the scouts planned to spend the remainder of the afternoon partaking in a slip and slide that they had set up on the church lawn.
It was great to see so many youths taking part in the operation of their troop and we look forward to many future endeavors with them.
